Primary Objective:

Leads and supports identifying and coordinating process improvement initiatives within MTS Test & Simulation Engineering & Operations, including training and implementation of KATA, Yellow Belt, cost savings, and productivity improvements.  Contributes to the development of process improvements to lower costs, improve throughput, and increase efficiency while maintaining or exceeding quality and safety. This includes analyzing in-process parameters such as scrap, capability, cycle time, etc.  Ensures all process improvements are accurately reflected in the QMS system supporting the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.


Major Accountabilities: 

  1. Participate and advise in improving cross-functional processes including engineering, planning, sourcing, manufacturing, logistics, and quality.
  2. Advise on and resolve simple and complex manufacturing processes within MTS and at outside suppliers.
  3. Lead complex continuous improvement efforts and supports complex initiatives.
  4. Support the implementation of Lean, Six Sigma, 5S and supporting programs within MTS Test & Simulation Engineering & Operations.
  5. Establish standardized guidelines and principles by utilizing continuous improvement methodology and creating an environment for never-ending improvement.
  6. Coordinate and track activities, manage events, and drive daily and long-term lean initiatives/projects.
  7. Analyze improvement programs and predict potential outcomes.
  8. Establish and maintain performance metrics to measure the success of the projects.
  9. Teach and lead cross-functional teams through Lean, CI and process improvements, including Kata and Kaizen tools,
  10. Assess, implement, and track KPI's to ensure progress.
  11. Provide training and support to new or existing employees on processes and continuous improvement.
  12. Develop and supports systems to foster accountability and recognition of continuous improvement efforts.
  13. Monitors and reports quality statistics.  Implements holistic quality control program (SPC where possible) in all areas of manufacturing process, particularly analysis of parametric data from automated test stations.
  14. Identify ways to reduce production costs through recommendations – i.e. new process equipment, equipment justification to improve performance. Employ lean and problem-solving concepts on new and existing processes.
  15. Perform GRR, process capability studies for new and improved manufacturing processes.
  16. Work with engineering on DFX (design for excellence), Design for test, design for manufacturing.
  17. Work with other relevant departments to determine estimated costs, run time and cost reduction.
  18. Knows and applies the division’s quality policy and procedures of ISO 9001 as it relates to the area of responsibility and the organization. Follows all standard operating procedures as prescribed and notifies appropriate personnel of any non-conformance.

Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in Engineering



  • 5 years of experience in methods & processes, continuous improvement, and lean practice within a production and product realization environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of SAP, quality systems, process routing, costing, capital planning, projects planning, and the product development cycle
  • Experience and training in lean methods, six sigma, and statistical process control.
  • Strong computer and software skills
  • Ability to work with a high degree of personal discipline
  • Good presentation skills
  • Technical aptitude
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
