The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for the daily packaging, shipping and logistics of all MTS product to customers both domestically and internationally. The goal is to provide best total value to MTS and its customers, while maintaining a high on time delivery (OTD) percentage and is responsible to ensure compliance to import/export and transportation regulations.

Major Areas of Accountability:
1. Develop, implement and manage an efficient and effective shipping planning and execution process which supports on-time delivery to the customer. Works closely with and leads efforts with Production, Customer Service, Planning and Project Engineering to establish process which allows pre-planning of orders and shipments. (Both)
2. Develop, maintain, and monitor processes and procedures to ensure high quality service, efficient operation, and compliance to all import/export and transportation regulations for Logistics department (Both)
3. Navigate sales orders to determine ship date, consolidation material availability, etc. (Both)
4. Expert in the organization around import/export document requirements and regulations. Provides consultation and guidance on Shipping regulation requirements; customs, HTS Codes, export requirements, etc. (Logistics)
5. Develop, implement and manage an efficient and effective Shipping Staging area which ensures traceability for materials in the area and efficient flow through the packaging area and to the customer. (Shipping)
6. Responsible for the packaging of all outbound product and deliverers to ensure delivery of products to MTS’ global customers and MTS’ global subsidiaries utilizing the appropriate methods that provide best total value. (Both)
7. Manage freight carrier compliance for costs, delivery and claims. Works closely with CS Manager to negotiate transportation rates or service. Analyze the financial impact of proposed logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes and volumes. Manage total freight expenses that ensure consistent and predictable service at costs that meet industry benchmarks while developing risk mitigation plans (Logistics)
8. Responsible for continuous improvement of packaging redesigns, including cost reductions on packaging products as well as efficient improvements for better designed packaging to maximize Shipping capabilities. (Shipping)
9. Responsible for the on-going management and development of assigned employees. Determines staffing and skill requirements to meet departmental needs and implements plans to satisfy those requirements. (Both)
10. Knows and applies the division’s quality policy and procedures of ISO 9001 as it relates to the area of responsibility and the organization. Follows all standard operating procedures as prescribed and notifies appropriate personnel of any non-conformance. (Both)





• High School Diploma or Equivalent plus 5 years experience or Associate degree plus 4 years experience and knowledge of inbound and outbound shipments
• Shipping experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with large variation of crated LTL shipments
• Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or other quality improvement methodologies
• Detail and analytical skills required to problem solve and implement process improvements
• Strong knowledge of import/export programs and requirements and documentation
• Demonstrated strong communication and leadership skills and ability to interact professionally and cross-functionally with all levels within the organization and external customer
• Understanding of optimization techniques, routing tools and performance metrics
• APICS certification desired
• Hazmat and Dangerous Goods Certifications desirable


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee also needs good hand eye coordination, good manual dexterity as well as the ability to use light hand tools, fine motor skills, calculator, fax, and photocopier equipment.
