Mechanical Design Engineer

MTS Sensors, a division of MTS Systems Corporation (NASDAQ:MTSC), is looking for a dynamic, highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer for it's R&D department. Our ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering and at least 5 years experience with some experience in the control industry designing electronic packaging.

Primary Objective:

 

Strengthen Sensor’s market leader position by customer-focused and goal-oriented mechanical design incorporating time and cost targets. Continuous improvement of product design for performance, quality, manufacturability and cost.

 

Major Areas of Accountability:


 

Develops Mechanical component design under the commercial, technical specification and design standards:

  • Analysis, simulations, prototyping and debug.
  • Product cost targets
  • Product release and configuration documentation and ERP updates
  • Continuous Engineering
  • Engineering Change Order control

 

Adheres to the internal engineering design processes by maintaining.

  • Project documentations
  • Project timelines
  • Peer reviews
  • Design reviews
  • Cross functional and cross division communication

 

Manages design projects for standard series products, custom products and product modification.

  • Actively participates in system and detail design.
  • Creates and controls project timeline, resource utilization and cost targets

 

Provides internal and external technical support.

  • Manufacturing support for product release, tooling, testing solutions, troubleshooting and continuous engineering.
  • Material support with vendor selection and alternative solutions
  • Technical Marketing/Sales support with technical product specifications, product customization, and customer visits for technology viability.
  • Service and Repair with customer troubleshooting visits.
  • Technical expertise for the worldwide engineering group
  • Competitive analysis

 

Develops and provides training to Manufacturing and Technical Marketing on:

  • New and existing MTS products
  • Current and emerging standards
     

 

Keeps related groups and management informed of progress and support requirements to prevent delays in time to market demands. Creates and delivers product and technology presentations - internally and externally.
 

Knows and applies the division’s quality policy and procedures of ISO 9001 as it relates to the area of responsibility and the organization. Follows all standard operating procedures as prescribed and notifies appropriate personnel of any non-conformance.
 

Stays current with the state-of-the-art technologies, products, development tools, test equipment, etc…
 

Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or relevant experience

  Master’s Degree desired

Minimum 5 years of related job experience

 Experience with electronic component packaging in R&D environment in Control Industry

Proven team member involvement in new product development projects

Project management experience desirable

  Experience with ERP system desirable
