We are looking for a talented machinist with prior manual grinding and CNC experience familiar with tight tolerances. As the industry leader for actuator valves this position will utilize CNC and manual Studer machinery to grind valve spools, sleeves and stops. Set up experience with manual and CNC equipment is a key element for this role and is desired but not required. MTS valve specialists use Sunnen machinery for honing and lapping for valve body preparation and take pride in making the highest quality valves in the industry. Primary Objective:
To perform final machining and assembly of various valves. Must be able to work closely with Engineering on the development and manufacturing of valves. Must meet customers' expectations, on-time delivery, quality and cost.

 

Major Areas of Accountability:
1. Performs machining operations on a variety of parts and performs final inspection and final testing of valve products.
• Accepts responsibility for completing required operations in an efficient manner.
• Demonstrates an understanding of MTS machining prints.
• Demonstrates an understanding of the Machine Shop routing systems.
• Demonstrates an understanding of his/her customers' expectations.
• Takes initiatives and makes decisions to meet the customers' expectations.

2. Demonstrates an understanding of/ability to:
• Provides feedback to area supervisor on quality problems, trends and workloads.
• Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to work overtime to meet demands.
• Interfaces well with colleagues and shift personnel; communicates well with colleagues.
• Performs normal preventative maintenance as required or apparent.
• Maintains an effective relationship with supervisor. Shows willingness to resolve issues regarding schedules and priorities.
• Recommends to supervisor any safety problems or hazards and takes necessary action to assure safe operating conditions.
• Operates and maintains equipment in a safe manner.
• Keeps up on new/current information pertinent to field.
• May direct and/or provide job knowledge to colleagues.
• Initiates creative and/or innovative ideas and shows willingness to implement them.
• Willing to travel, when necessary, to provide input in the purchase of major equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

3. Knowledge and Skills
• Must understand and apply expert machining knowledge.
• Machining tolerances and measuring equipment, tooling selection, machine setup and operation. Common machining symbols on MTS prints.
• Understanding of material characteristics and proper machining techniques.
• Ability to program CNC G-code and M-code through conversational software and CAD/CAM software.
• Ability to manage multiple machine offsets and tool offsets.
• Design fixtures for machining processes.
• Part inspection for tolerances, surface finish, hardness, and material specifications.

4. Responsibilities
• Manages the work load, and work direction, for one or more work cells and the machinists working in them.
• Machines or repairs to print or instructions provided in job packets.
• Completes work orders in a timely manner and delivers on time to planned dates.
• Documents inspection record per machine shop procedures.
• Suggests and implements basic improvements in processes and design for manufacturability.
• Determines work direction for entire work center(s).
• Provide mentoring and training to other machinists.
• Works directly with supervisor to provide leadership to other machinists on technical and procedural issues.
• Works closely with ME’s to develop cost effective processes and improve quality.
• Authorized to make technical decisions and authorize actions that don’t affect form, fit, or function.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

•     High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalency.

•     Two years trade school and four years experience as a machinist, or eight years machine shop experience.

  • CNC experience required

    •     Experience working on close tolerance machining.

    •     Be able to work within print and assigned tolerances.

    •     Must be able to learn and use electronic measuring instruments.

    •     Must have knowledge and experience of various machining methods including lathes, mills, grinders, hones and other miscellaneous machines as required in the manufacturing of valves.

    •     Must be able to lift and carry 30-40 pounds.
