Primary Objective:
Responsible for the overall management of the Rolling Road Systems project portfolio execution for revenue, cost, schedule, performance and quality. Responsible for defining organization roles and structure to meet orders and customer commitments, collaborates cross-functionally to develop staffing plans for portfolio, supports functional managers with on-going staff development and recruitment. Collaborates closely with, Marketing, Sales, Engineering, Operations, and Service to manage demand and capacity within budget constraints. Defines portfolio execution strategy and enacts continuous improvement goals to improve efficiency, reduce costs and improve delivery performance.

 

Product Description: Flat-Trac Rolling Road systems are used in wind tunnels to simulate the road beneath a vehicle as it travels at speed. By creating the air flow that occurs between the vehicle and road surface, the Rolling Road system provides the most accurate aerodynamic road simulation possible. MTS pioneered these systems in 1998, they incorporate stainless steel belts and proprietary bearing, belt tracking, and tensioning to maintain near-perfect moving belt flatness, even at speeds approaching 200 miles per hour. These systems have become an essential element in the development process, enabling the accurate measurement of aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance of new automobile designs, which are key factors that impact the fuel efficiency and environmental performance of the vehicle. MTS offers a range of Rolling Road solutions covering the needs of motorsports, automotive and aerospace applications.

 

Major Areas of Accountability:
1. Provides leadership in a highly matrixed organization to successfully execute the portfolio of Rolling Road Projects. Works cross functionally to secure resources and resolve conflicts. Defines and implements portfolio metrics, goals and monitoring to ensure progress is made to plan and areas of continuous improvement are identified and acted upon.
2. Defines and communicates cross-functional strategy and objectives for Rolling Road Systems execution goals. Leads annual planning by facilitating and integrating inputs from cross functional teams.
3. Continuously analyzes portfolio execution performance and identifies continuous improvement goals to improve efficiency, reduce costs and improve delivery performance accountable to delivery on continuous improvement programs.
4. Participates as core member of GRV-Market team. Actively works with sales and marketing to align execution plan to market demand while also balancing commitments to available capacity and resources. Communicates and insures alignment and adherence to GRV-Market and MTS-Test goals and objectives.
5. Via cross-functional collaboration assures portfolio staffing needs are met. Collaborates with functional managers to assess skills and gaps, provides input on employee development plans and supports requisition and recruiting efforts as needed.
6. Ensures portfolio projects are managed in accordance with the Project System to meet technical performance, budget and schedule requirements.
7. Provides regular reporting to Test Leadership for WIP of individual projects and portfolio performance. Monitors performance against plan, and acts to minimize deviations.
8. Facilitates and monitors shared portfolio technical ownership. Participates in portfolio technical meetings, establishes objectives, facilitates R&D planning and resolves conflicts as needed. Insures regular communication of issues and opportunities across the portfolio so that project teams benefit from the collective experience.
9. Responsible for the on-going management and development of assigned employees. Determines staffing and skill requirements to meet departmental needs, and implements plans to satisfy those requirements.

 

 

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent; MS preferred.
Minimum 10 years of progressively demanding project management experience
Previous experience successfully managing multiple projects within a similar sized volume/revenue, including developing project schedules, financial tracking and reporting, and allocating/directing resources for various phases of projects.
Must have demonstrated the ability to drive change and continuous improvement across a broad level/scope.
Ability to build relationships, lead cross-functional teams, and build consensus among a large group.
Proven ability to successfully solve complex business and technical problems.
Working knowledge of industry engineering standards, practices, and regulations.
